The Washington County families we serve enjoy a comfortable, family-like atmosphere where the children are able to interact in a uniquely Montessori way. The low student-teacher ratio at this preschool in the Hillsboro School District also helps ensure that each child receives the individual attention they deserve. We offer an activity filled day that encourages the students' intellectual, social, physical, creative and moral development in a caring, nurturing environment. Most importantly, our Montessori program fosters a love for learning that will stay with your child for a lifetime.
Cornerstone Montessori Children's House first welcomed children in 1997. Teacher Tami, its founder, completed her Association Montessori Internationale (A.M.I.) Teacher training in 1992, at the Montessori Institute Northwest in Portland, Oregon. (A.M.I. is the oldest Montessori organization, founded by Dr. Maria Montessori herself in 1939.) Teacher Tami went on to complete special training programs for both The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and Musikgarten in 1997. She also holds a Bachelor's Degree from Pacific University. Her husband of 30 years is a firefighter and has played an integral part in the creation of the school. They have two grown children.
Teacher Taylor has been with our Cornerstone Montessori family for 5 year now. She came highly recommended from Teacher Connie, our previous assistant of 15 years, who has decided to do in-home childcare. Taylor has previous experience working with young children, including one year as a Nanny. She is CPR/First Aid certified and also has her food handler certificate. Beside a passion for working with children, this newlywed also loves animals and outdoor activities such as hiking.
